London punk festival : debrief
Good afternoon guys! As promised this morning, I’ll give you a tiny debrief of this amazing day I spend in this festival.
My friends and guides for this event gave me first some information about the punk movement, like its birth year (release date of Sex Pistols’ 1st single), and then we made a little travel path trough London.
I’m sorry guys but I’ll not be able to write down a whole day full of strange, funny and amazing things that happens in basically every festival, even less in a punk festival. So I’ll just share with you the moments the most worthy to be seen.
In the everyday life, when you see a punk person, he/she seems different; everybody turns around to look at him/her like on some rare rest of an old civilization. But during the festival, when you’re walking in the subway on your way to work and you’re surrounded by all this punk, all this anarchy, you feel small and it’s your turn to feel different, people look at you like if suddenly the society has been turned upside down: everybody dress up like a punk and you, casually dressed, are calling for anarchy and turning your back to the society.
This festival was an opportunity for me to discover punk in a way that was hidden by the prejudices and stereotypes. I’ll not carry the anarchist flag and yell “NO FUTURE!” just because I like the movement; but still, I find that even if I disagree with the message they want to share, I really appreciate the way they spread it.
And the punk festival is also an excellent way to share another message that needs to be heard: PUNK IS NOT DEAD! I saw there the first and the last ones to join the punk movement, all ages, genres, social classes mixed together to form a culture. They share their message with their style, the DIYs items, the songs, and this festival!
So after this passionate conclusion, I just want to thank my dear punk friends, the old and the new, that told me about this festival and took me through it, thank you Maggie, thank you, dear readers! Enjoy your life and I hope to see you again very soon!
